Leo district 306A2 Matugama Leo club launched a leadership program based on development of leadership skills and creating positive changes within the students. It provided exposure to a spectrum of leadership frameworks and facilitates a reflective experience for each participant concerning their approach to a leading and the capabilities they need to develop as leaders. It was held 2rd of October, 2011 at the auditorium of the Matugama C.W.W. Kannangara central college from 7.30am to 4.30pm. We selected around one hundred students from the six remote schools of the Matugama educational zone. These all schools are very primitive level. Because they haven’t even basic needs what they want. Also, students of these schools had not been participated to any occasion like this here before. So, they were cornered. But as the Leos we could do something especial for them.
Sponsorships of leadership program were hold by the NDB Bank, Central Environment Authority and Seylan Bank. Chief Guest of this leadership program was Mr………………………….and also participated Mr. Mahesh……of Red Cross society and a consultant of Plastic Waste Management Project of Central Environment Authority as other guests.
At the initial period of program we divided this program in to several cessions including refreshment period for tea time and lunch. Firstly, we selected to hold the lecture on solid waste management and lecture was given by the consultant of the Central Environment Authority. In this, He explained about very significant factors about the solid waste management including,
- · What is the waste management?
- · How can we do a waste management?
- · What are the benefits from a waste management? Etc.
Then we could start our next cession of program. It was about the leadership skill. So, this lecturer was based on about the following topics,
- · Who are the leaders?
- · How to be a good leader?
- · What are the leadership skills? Etc.
Especially this cession was very practical cession. So, firstly pupils were divided in to several groups and gave opportunity to understand about leadership skills by themselves. So, it was a physically trained cession.
At the midways of the leadership program we presented milk tea with short eats for morning and evening refreshments and also lunch for every pupil and guests. Also we presented a valuable certificate for every participated pupil with association of the Central Environment Authority. Finally, we could conclude our leadership program with lot of feedbacks of both students and guests.
